Mesker Park Zoo and Botanic Garden

Mesker Park Zoo is morning the loss of its oldest giraffe.

Zoo officials say Kiah died at the age of 29 – well past the median life expectancy of 20 years for a female giraffe in human care.

On its Facebook page, the zoo said the giraffe was humanely euthanized due to age-related difficulties that were severely affecting her quality of life.

The zoo asked the community to help honor Kiah by posting pictures and memories.

Mesker noted giraffes have been a part of the zoo's family for decades and will continue to be a staple.

Currently, Clementine – a three-year-old giraffe -- occupies the habitat with Mesker’s two zebras.
