The COVID death toll continues to rise in southwest Indiana and western Kentucky.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported two new deaths in Vanderburgh County, one in Warrick County, and another in Pike County.
The Thursday report did show a decrease in the number of new infections in Vanderburgh County – 45. That number has reached triple digits in some recent reports.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate rose to 6.7 percent, while the number of COVID patients hospitalized in southwest Indiana fell a bit to 170.
Statewide, nearly 2,000 new cases were reported, along with 23 new COVID-related deaths.
In western Kentucky, the Green River District Health Department reported a new fatality in Union County and another in Webster County.
55 new infections were recorded in the seven-county district – 21 of them in Henderson County.
35 COVID patients were in the hospital.
