Planning to Begin on Lloyd Improvements

Local and Indiana Department of Transportation officials Wednesday kicked off a new project that will eventually sink $100 million into improvements on the Lloyd Expressway.

Don’t get too excited yet. Construction on the project announced Wednesday won’t start for another four years.   But INDOT officials wanted the public to know that they’re starting traffic studies and planning on various improvements to almost the entire length of the Lloyd Expressway in Vanderburgh County.

The project will include repaving, new bridges and intersection improvements. One thing there won’t be are any new interchanges. INDOT spokesman Rusty Fowler says beyond that, they don’t want to get too specific on intersection improvement until the studies and planning are complete.

Fowler said, “We still have to go back, collect the actual data and say, does that concept work here?”

INDOT has set up a new website for information, input and updates on the project. It’s theLloyd4u.com.
