COVID-related deaths and infections continue to mount in southwest Indiana and western Kentucky.
The Indiana State Department of Health announced three new deaths in Vanderburgh County, one in Warrick County, and another in Pike County.
The Tuesday report also showed 106 new infections in Vanderburgh, pushing the county’s total since March above the 5,000 mark.
Vanderburgh’s death toll reached 45, Warrick’s rose to 58, and Pike County recorded its 8th COVID-related fatality.
The state data showed 166 COVID patients are in the hospital and less than 24 percent of intensive care beds are available in southwest Indiana.
Statewide, 27 new coronavirus deaths were reported with more than 1,500 new cases. Nearly 35 percent of intensive care beds are available across the state.
More grim news from western Kentucky, where the Green River District Health Department reported eight new deaths.
Six of the fatalities were in Henderson County, where Redbanks Nursing Home is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak.
The other two COVID-related deaths were in Daviess and McLean counties.
55 new infections were recorded across the seven-county district.
