Officials will cut a ribbon next week to open a tunnel at the Huntingburg airport.
The ribbon cutting on Monday will celebrate the opening of the tunnel under Dubois County Road 200-South.
In release, the Dubois County Airport Authority says the tunnel is a milestone in the project to expand Huntingburg Regional Airport.
The $13 million plan calls for lengthening and widening the airport’s runway to allow larger aircraft.
Officials say 90% of the project will be funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, which prioritizes projects throughout the nation.
They say it will be the first Indiana airport with a tunnel.
The airport authority said the first conversations about expanding the Huntingburg airport started two decades ago.
