Unemployment rates in southwest Indiana remain lower than the national average.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says Vanderburgh County’s jobless rate in July was eight percent.
That’s just above the state rate of 7.9 percent, but below the national rate of 10.2.
In a state release, surrounding counties reported lower jobless rates.
Warrick was at 5.7 percent, Posey was at 5 percent, and Gibson County’s rate was 6.1 percent.
Layoffs and closings due to the pandemic raised jobless rates nationwide, but the national average has fallen from a high of 14.7 percent in April.
