The Evansville Rescue Mission has tested 27 of its residents after one tested positive for COVID-19.
On its Facebook page, the Rescue Mission confirmed that a resident of its Men's Residence Center on Walnut St. tested positive for the coronavirus and is being treated at a local hospital.
Mission President and CEO, Tracy Gorman, said 27 additional residents were tested and are quarantining separately throughout the Men's Residence Center.
The Vanderburgh County Health Department and its community partners were expected to test the rest of the residents Thursday.
Gorman said in the meantime, residents are being asked to stay at the Rescue Mission, if possible.
He said the mission has employed social distancing and sanitation protocols throughout its organization since mid-March.
Gorman encouraged everyone to safely practice social distancing, mask-wearing, and good personal hygiene.
