Evansville’s public schools have announced a reopening plan.
EVSC Superintendent David Smith announced on Tuesday that the new school year will begin Wednesday, Aug. 5th, anticipating -- quote -- “every student being in our schools every day.”
In a podcast, Smith said "nothing takes the place of that important relationship between teacher and student."
He also cited the importance of a stable school schedule for parents and students.
But he also said the EVSC will offer families and students, who may have health issues or are forced to self-quarantine due to the pandemic, the option to learn through online instruction.
Smith said thorough cleaning and disinfecting, hand-washing, face masks, and social distancing will become the norm in brick-and-mortar schools.
He said expectations could change in the next six weeks.
The EVSC plans to host a Facebook Live session before the school year begins to disseminate information and hear families' input.
