The Buffalo Trace Council of Scouts BSA didn’t let the COVID-19 pandemic stop them from having a camporee on Saturday.

Over 250 Scouts were scheduled to attend the youth organization’s Cabin Fever Camporee online, including at least one from Japan. Despite not being an in-person event, the camporee had all the trappings of a Scout event- cooking, a campfire, a scavenger hunt and in a nod to the pandemic, a class on making face masks. Fred Hassman is Native Trails District Chairman. We spoke with him over Zoom.

“About 25 people have been working for the last two and a half weeks to get this going. It’s amazing they could get it this fast.  We’ve got some real interesting activities and it’s all through Zoom.”

Haasman says kids need in-person gatherings as well, but the virtual camporee will have to do until pandemic-forced restrictions are lifted.
