Evansville and Vanderburgh County are getting some COVID-19 response funding from the Department of Justice.

Over $276,000 in grants to the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County were announced Thursday by U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler.

In a release, the grants are for public safety challenges because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The money can be used for things like personnel, overtime, protective equipment and jail inmates’ medical needs.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Dave Wedding said that he was grateful that the grant process was streamlined in order to get the funds as quickly as possible where they’re needed.

The funds for state, local and tribal governments are put of the federal stimulus package.
