In announcing his COVID-19 recovery plan for the city last week, Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke added food security as one of the focus areas for re-opening the city.

Pie Pan manager Alysha Camp, along with Morgan Clark and Specialists Hunter Mundy and Cheyenne Nugent of the 163rd Field Artillery of the Indiana National Guard are loading the last delivery vehicle of the day Monday afternoon outside the Pie Pan on Evansville’s North Side.
The volunteer-run grocery delivery service is one of the projects launched by the Feed Evansville Task Forceduring the coronavirus-forced closings of many businesses. Lisa Vaughan is an organizer. The Pie Pan’s dining room may be closed by the pandemic, but its commercial grade kitchen is open and serving as their base of operations.
Vaughan said, “We’re really excited that the Pie Pan has opened its doors so we can fill all the boxes and have deliveries here.”
Pie Pan manager Alysha Camp is glad to help.
“During our down time, in between carryout orders, we do our best to put together the boxes and have everything ready to go by Monday.”
Vaughan says about 120 of the individual boxes have gone out in the two weeks that the grocery delivery program has been running.
