Evansville-based Berry Global says it’s boosting its production of face mask materials.
In a release, the plastics maker said its initiatives include designating additional capacity for the production of face mask materials in North America and introducing a new material for face masks in Europe.
Berry said demand is outpacing supply for face mask filters during the coronavirus pandemic, so its product development team responded.
The company said solutions include pivoting existing manufacturing assets and creating alternative materials for face masks.
Berry has expanded its Meltex platform to add capacity in Waynesboro, Virginia.
The company is also launching an extension of its Synergex products.
Berry announced earlier this month a one-week layoff of about 600 employees due to a decline in the food service market.
