Deaconess is asking for volunteers who have recovered from COVID-19 to consider donating blood to help treat current patients.
A release from Deaconess says someone who has recovered from COVID-19 has antibodies in their blood plasma. It’s called convalescent plasma and can be given to another patient to help fight a severe or life-threatening COVID-19 virus infection.
Convalescent plasma treatments have been used successfully during recent outbreaks of respiratory illnesses such as SARS, MERS and H1N1 flu.
