INDOT says an extensive review of the Highway 41 bridge over Pigeon Creek in Evansville is nearing the finish line.
The 80-year-old steel truss bridge was damaged by an oversized load in January.
The damage was so extensive the bridge had to be closed because it could no longer safely carry traffic.
Southbound traffic on 41 has been diverted around it.
INDOT has performed what it calls an “extremely in-depth review to determine the next steps.”
The review included a detailed inspection, a damage assessment, and an active solicitation of stakeholders and consulting parties.
INDOT also said a Historic Bridge Alternative Analysis is under development. The green-painted bridge opened in 1940.
The agency said an analysis will compare costs of repair vs. replacement. Crews had fixed-up the bridge just last year.
