Deaconess Health says it can now provide same-day test results for COVID-19.
In a release, Deaconess said test samples no longer need to be sent to out-of-town laboratories.
Deaconess said it’s purchased testing equipment that uses the same technique as Eli Lilly, Lab Corp, and other companies.
Deaconess Director of Microbiology Dr. April Abbott said the process is considered “the most accurate way to diagnose someone with a current coronavirus infection.”
Deaconess Regional Laboratory Director Phil Gamble said having same-day results will be a “game-changer” in the fight against COVID-19.
Gamble said Deaconess can now perform “significantly more tests” with a greatly improved turn-around time for results.
But officials said a test still won’t be recommended for everyone, because of a continued shortage of supplies needed to collect samples.
