The University of Evansville has fired and replaced men’s basketball coach Walter McCarty.
UE had placed McCarty on administrative leave the day after Christmas, as the university began an investigation into reports of alleged sexual misconduct and violations of the University's Title IX policy.
In a release, the university said it received reports of misconduct by McCarty during his tenure at UE and had issued warnings to him regarding inappropriate off-court behavior with members of the “campus community.”
The university said while the investigation of potential Title IX violations will continue, UE decided to terminate McCarty's employment, based on facts uncovered so far.
In the release, UE said there’s no place at the University for “any behavior that jeopardizes the safety and security of others.”
Just hours after announcing the Evansville native’s firing, UE announced McCarty’s replacement, Todd Lickliter.
UE said Lickliter signed a multiyear deal with the university and will be coaching Wednesday night when the Aces host Drake.
