State and local leaders gathered at the University of Southern Indiana Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
The USI Gospel Ensemble Designed by Grace sang “Lift Every Voice” during the luncheon dubbed “Igniting Prosperity through Social Justice.”
Indiana Lt. Gov. and Evansville native Suzanne Crouch recalled a lesson from the slain civil rights leader…
"That when we can accept the differences in each other we can come to realize that we are all equal in the eyes of God"
USI President Ron Rochon reminded the audience in Carter Hall that children aren’t born racist, they learn racism…
"What are we teaching our children? What are we doing on a daily basis to make sure that they're prepared to serve this world (and) to serve their families."
Rochon also asked for a moment of silence to remember the university’s founding president, Dr. David Rice, who died last week.
Author and CNN political analyst April Ryan was the event’s keynote speaker.
