State money is on the way to help repair the closed New Harmony Bridge.
Officials closed the nearly 90-year-old, two-lane Harmony Way Bridge over the Wabash River in 2012 due to structural issues.
Traffic between New Harmony and White County, Illinois has since been detoured to I-64.
Officials had hoped to receive funding through Indiana’s Regional Cities Initiative but time ran out.
This summer, congress passed and President Trump signed a bill to turn over the federally-owned bridge to the states of Indiana and Illinois.
And now, Indiana has announced it will provide $350,000 in seed funding for what it called an “important regional preservation and economic development initiative.”
In a release, officials say the money will cover half of the estimated inspection and repair costs to re-open the bridge.
The other half of the funding is expected to come from the state of Illinois.
Officials say the repairs should turn the span into a self-sustaining toll bridge.
