High Winds Knock Out Power

Wind gusts topping 50 miles an hour downed tree limbs and power lines in the Tri-State, and left thousands without power Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service recorded a gust of 54 miles an hour at Evansville Regional Airport just before 4:00 a.m.

Vectren reported more than 3,200 customers without power in southwest Indiana at about 7:00 a.m.

Most of the outages were in Evansville.

Crews restored power to all but about 200 customers by late morning.

The high winds were part of a storm system that brought snow to the Upper Midwest.

Another strong system is expected to bring rain and possible thunderstorms to the Evansville area Friday night and Saturday.
