A Warrick County school principal has won a statewide award.
The Indiana Association of School Principals has named Sharon Elementary’s Ashlee Bruggenschmidt the 2019 Elementary School Principal of the Year.
The association touted Bruggenschmidt’s work at Sharon Elementary, in the community, and across the state.
Bruggenschmidt’s daughter Kate died in an ATV accident in 2015.
After the tragedy, Bruggenschmidt led an effort to require anyone under 18 to wear a helmet while riding an ATV.
The Play for Kate Bill became law in 2017.
Since then, the Play for Kate Foundation has presented scholarships to graduating seniors, funded a playground at the Boonville Youth Softball Complex, and provided ATV safety programs.
