The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library has hired a new director.
The EVPL’s Board of Trustees says Scott Kinney has accepted the position of the library's CEO-Director.
Kinney is currently the Director of the Mobile Public Library in Mobile, Alabama.
He’s also served as a library director in Wyoming and Nebraska.
In a release, EVPL Board President Chuck Whobrey touted Kinney’s “library experience, passion for community engagement, and commitment to exceptional service.”
A national search for a new EVPL director began in July, after Cyndee Landrum accepted a job at the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington D.C.
Landrum led the EVPL for 3-and-a-half years.
Longtime Director Marci Au came out of retirement to serve as interim director after Landrum left.
Landrum’s departure came five months after the EVPL hosted a controversial drag queen story hour event.
A similar event was held during Kinney’s time as director at the Mobile library system.
