A sanitation workers strike in Massachusetts has reached the Evansville area.
Republic Services workers in Marshfield, Mass. extended their picket line to the Republic facility in Evansville on Friday.
The union says more than 70 local workers who are members of Teamsters Local 215 exercised their right to honor the picket line.
The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility tweeted that Republic used temporary workers and management drivers to make limited pick-ups at hospitals, nursing homes, and dialysis centers.
The utility said all residential and commercial services would resume Saturday.
The striking workers in the Boston area launched their strike Aug. 29th after Republic refused to agree to a contract with what the union called a “livable wage and affordable health care.”
Republic called the union’s demands “unrealistic.”
