A project to remove an old railroad crossing on Highway 41 in Evansville is underway, closing 41 in both directions.
Norfolk Southern crews are removing the tracks on U.S. 41 between the Lloyd Expressway and Virginia St.
The work is expected to take two days and requires all lanes of 41 to be shut down.
The rail line has been taken out of service. It has crossed 41 for decades.
The removal was originally scheduled for the end of September but was delayed by a federally-mandated 15-day waiting period.
