Railroad Removal Pushed to October

Drivers looking forward to the end of a rough railroad crossing on Highway 41 will have to wait a little longer.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says the removal of the railroad tracks across U.S. 41 between Virginia St and the Lloyd Expressway has been delayed.

Norfolk Southern crews were expected to begin the removal at the end of this month but in a new release, INDOT says it will have to wait until a federally mandated 15-day period expires.

The waiting period allows for public comment on the project.

The delay is expected to push the crossing removal into mid to late October.

The removal will require a two-day closing of 41, but INDOT says crews will try to work around the morning rush hour.

The official detour will use state roads 62, 66, and I-69.
