A suspected colony of bats has closed an Evansville school.
St. Benedict Cathedral Catholic School in Evansville was closed Friday after a consultant conducting maintenance work discovered evidence of a colony of bats in the attic of one of the school buildings.
Students are instead completed an e-learning day.
In a news release, Diocese of Evansville school superintendent Dr. Daryl Hagan said “the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are paramount.”
He apologized for the inconvenience, but said the school exercised an “abundance of caution in canceling in-school classes” to give professionals a chance to assess the situation and determine the next steps on safely eliminating the bat colony.
