FOP To Vote On Police Chief Bolin

Evansville’s Fraternal Order of Police will hold a vote of confidence Wednesday on Police Chief Billy Bolin.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke told reporters he’s standing behind Chief Bolin...

"I've been very pleased with how the chief has interacted with the public since his time in office. He has a demanding job. I believe with all my heart that he's looking out for the best interest of our citizens as well as those members of the Evansville Police Department."

Winnecke characterized tensions in the EPD as “labor-management issues”…

"None of the issues concerned me to the extent that I would think they'd be disqualifyers for the chief's ability to lead the department."

On his Facebook page, Chief Bolin said regardless of the outcome of the vote, he will remain in the position and the department will “continue to provide the same level of policing” that the community expects and deserves.

Bolin said tensions between the administration and the FOP have been around for all of his 21 years on the force.

He said usually, they’re kept out of public view.

The FOP does not have the power to dismiss the police chief. He serves at the pleasure of the mayor.
