Disaster Aid Available to Counties

USDA.gov

Communities in eleven counties in Southwest Indiana and Western Kentucky are eligible for additional federal disaster funding prompted by heavy rains and flooding this year.

The announcement Thursday said that $150 million has been allocated nationwide under the Community Facilities Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In a release, USDA Rural Development Indiana State Director Michael Dora said, "USDA stands ready to assist rural communities with their recovery efforts." He added, "The funding can be used to purchase, construct or improve essential community facilities, purchase equipment and pay related project expenses."

The funding is part of a $19 billion dollar disaster aid package signed by President Trump earlier this summer.  Thirty one counties in Indiana and over seventy counties in Kentucky are eligible. There were no Illinois counties listed in the announcement.

In Southwest Indiana, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Gibson, Spencer and Perry Counties can apply for the community aid. In western Kentucky, Hancock, Henderson, McLean, Ohio, Union and Webster Counties are on the list.

The funding is to assist rural communities with their recovery efforts. Eligible agencies include municipalities, public bodies and non-profit agencies with projects in rural areas.

Grant applications in Indiana will be accepted at USDA's state office at 5976 Lakeside Boulevard, Indianapolis, IN 46278. In Kentucky,  the address is 771 Corporate Drive, Suite 200, Lexington, KY 40503.
