A rough railroad crossing in Evansville will finally be removed.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced railroad crews will remove the crossing on U.S. 41 between Virginia Street and the Lloyd Expressway later this month.

The crossing has been a source of irritation for drivers since the multi-lane highway opened in the 1980’s.

The removal will require a two-day closing of 41 starting Monday, Sept. 30th.

INDOT says the official detour will use state roads 62, 66, and I-69.

The agency says work will be scheduled around morning drive times.
