Thunderstorms that rolled through the Evansville area Sunday evening knocked down trees, limbs, and power lines -- leaving thousands without electricity.

Vectren reported about 5,700 customers without power at the height of the outages.

Hundreds remained without electricity overnight.

Vectren crews had reduced the number of outages in southwest Indiana to less than 300 by midday Monday.

The utility company said in a tweet that the majority of damage was due to vegetation which the company says takes time to clear and repair.

The National Weather Service recorded less than a half-inch of rain at Evansville Regional Airport, but some areas saw heavier amounts.

Forecasters say there are chances of thunderstorms each day this week.
