Heavy rain and high winds knocked out power and slowed the morning commute in the Evansville area Tuesday.

Vectren said the storms left about 5,500 customers in the dark.

Utility crews restored power to all but about 100 customers by 11:00 a.m.

In a tweet, Vectren said most of the outages were the result of lightning and fallen tree limbs.

The National Weather Service recorded more than two inches of rain at Evansville Regional Airport, most of it between 5:00 and 8:00 a.m.

No severe weather watches or warnings were issued for the Evansville area.

High water and wet pavement, along with a variety of current lane restrictions, slowed the drive to work or school for many area drivers.
