Recovery Center To Offer Fresh Start

A new recovery center in Evansville hopes to turn the tide of the opioid crisis and help mothers raise healthy babies.

Volunteers of America is expected to open the Fresh Start Recovery Center in the 1300 block of W. Buena Vista later this month.

Public officials and community leaders toured the 23-bed residential facility, where expectant women and mothers with up to two children under the age of five will live and receive support.

In a news release, Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana President & CEO of John von Arx III said “Being able to live with their babies while receiving treatment in a stable, home-like environment motivates mothers to succeed and strengthens the bond between them at a vulnerable time.”

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke called the recovery center a “much needed treatment resource” for the community.

The State of Indiana partnered with Volunteers of America to open the Evansville center.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch said the Fresh Start facility can break the “intergenerational cycle of addiction.”

The Evansville House is the third Fresh Start program opened and operated by Volunteers of America since 2015, following centers in Indianapolis and Winchester.
