ROMP Alum Jeff Austin Dies

jambands.com

As ROMP gets underway in Owensboro, music fans are mourning the death of a performer.

Singer, songwriter, and mandolin player Jeff Austin has died.

His band played at ROMP last year and was scheduled to perform again this year.

But Austin announced on Facebook last weekend that he would not be able to play due to a “medical emergency.”

Then word came that Austin died Monday in Seattle at the age of 45.

There’s no word on the cause of death.

Austin was a founding member of the Yonder Mountain String Band and the Jeff Austin Band.

He’s survived by his wife and 3 children.

Austin’s Facebook page says contributions to his family can be made at sweetrelief.org.
