Feds Asking For Input On Blocked RR Crossings

Members of Congress are urging Hoosiers to report railroad crossings that are frequently blocked.

The Federal Railroad Administration is seeking information from the public, and U.S. Senators Todd Young and Mike Braun and Congressman Pete Visclosky are urging residents to speak up.

The FRA wants to know the frequency, location, and impacts of highway-rail crossings blocked by slow-moving or stopped trains.

The agency notes the potential safety concerns, including delays to emergency response vehicles.

In a news release, Senator Young said he’s heard from “numerous Hoosier communities about the impact of blocked railroad crossings in Indiana.”

He says he appreciates the FRA’s attention to public safety and will continue working with Hoosier stakeholders to identify solutions.

Comments can be made online to federal register dot-gov/documents.

The FRA is also proposing new dedicated links to its website and phone app for users to report blocked crossings.

You can tell the FRA about blocked closings here.
