River Clean-up Set For Saturday

Volunteers will be picking up trash along the Ohio River this weekend.

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission – or ORSANCO -- will conduct its 31st Ohio River Sweep on Saturday.

ORSANCO Executive Director Richard Harrison told WNIN that thousands of people volunteered last year.

"And it really shines a focus on the river and the need to protect it, to take care of it. And so, we pick up tons of litter, it's really an exciting event, we try to make it family-friendly, and weather permitting we're looking forward to another great event."

Volunteers in Evansville should report to the Four Freedoms Monument at 8:00 Saturday morning.

The river sweep also begins at 8:00 at the Old Lock and Dam Building in Newburgh, on Ohio River Road #2 in Kentucky across from Newburgh, and at English Park in Owensboro.

Volunteers will gather at 8:30 at Shelbourne Park in Mt. Vernon,.

Other river sweep locations and details are available at orsanco.org.
