County Election Board Certifies Primary Results

The results of Evansville’s primary elections are now official. The Vanderburgh County Election Board sealed the deal at a meeting Friday morning.

After an election, the board has to decide whether to fine candidates who don’t file campaign finance reports on time.

This year, the board adhered to precedent and voted to waive fees.

"All the reports had been filed although a few were not filed timely," says county clerk Carla Hayden, who sits on the board. She says what’s most important is that the county has the forms.

The election board also had to sort through provisional ballots before it could certify the results.

It tossed out two of the ballots. On one, the voter didn’t provide ID. On the other, the voter wasn’t on the rolls.

The board did approve one provisional ballot. The voter didn’t receive the absentee ballot she wanted, although it was the one she requested. She surrendered the ballot at the polling station and voted provisionally.

The official tally also includes four votes from a machine that hadn’t been included in election night tallies.

The new vote counts don't change the outcome in any race.
