Arrest In Overnight Arson, Battery Case

Vanderburgh County Sheriff

A Vanderburgh County man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly beating his wife with a firearm and then setting their mobile home on fire during a brief standoff with deputies.

According to a release from the sheriff's office, Steven Goldstein, 46, allegedly hit his wife in the head with a pistol, then shot her with a BB gun before she was able to escape and call 911. She told a dispatcher that Goldstein had been using methamphetamine most of the day Tuesday and had several firearms in the residence.

Goldstein initially refused to come out when deputies arrived about 8:30 Tuesday evening. He allegedly set fire to the home, but came out a few minutes later and surrendered without further incident.

Goldstein faces preliminary charges of arson and domestic battery, both felonies.
