Continued community support for high quality local journalism has been awarded again in 2019. WNIN received regional awards in the small market division of the Radio Television Digital News Association in two categories. Region 7 of the RTDNA is Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Michigan.
For 2019:
Radio Documentary- Chester and Gertrude (At War)
This program was our look at the Evansville woman who launched a national organization to support the troops in World War One, and her son, U.S. Army Sergeant Chester Schulz, who was killed in battle in France just four days before the end of the war.
Region 7 Overall Excellence- For the second year, WNIN's local news, diversity and innovation earned one of the highest honors in broadcast news for the four state region.
RTDNA has 13 regions. WNIN's entries now go on to national competition in those categories. The national awards are announced in June. WNIN receeived a national Edward R. Murrow award in 2015 and national awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Public Radio News Directors, Inc. organization in 2018 for our investigation into the impact of the crime of Dr. Albert Fink.
