LST 325 Closer To Downtown Move

LST 325 is a step closer to moving to Downtown Evansville’s riverfront.

The Port Authority board awarded $2.1 million to Arc Construction to build a visitors center at the former site of the city’s riverboat casino.

The board also approved $1.3 million to Skanska to build a mooring barge at the site for the World War II ship.

And the board awarded about $150,000 to M. Bowling for dredging.

Final contracts will be presented to the Port Authority board in April.

The bids put the relocation project under budget.

The city hopes to move the ship in November.

The LST currently operates near Inland Marina, off Waterworks Road.

Officials say the new location will be more visible and closer to the former site of the Evansville Shipyard, where 167 LST’s were built during World War II.
