Dubois Co. Man Pleads Guilty To Killing Buck

Indiana Department of Natural Resources

A Dubois County man has pleaded guilty after he was accused of illegally killing a 20-point buck that had "more than 200 inches of antler."

Mark Gill of Holland has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors, unlawfully taking a white-tailed deer and false informing.

In a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the agency called the deer the "buck of a lifetime."

According to DNR, Gill killed the buck during the 2016 season after he already killed another during archery season. That’s a violation of the state’s one-buck rule.

DNR says he then froze the second deer and tried claiming it during the 2017 season.

As part of his plea agreement, Gill’s hunting license will be suspended for two years. He’s also facing 100 hours of community service and a handful of fines.

DNR says the Turn In A Poacher (TIP) program was helpful in the case. The program gives money in exchange for information that leads to an arrest.

DNR says the TIP program received 277 reports last year alone.
