Some local politicians have expressed concerns about public safety at the Drag Queen Story Hour event just days away, but the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) says it has a plan in place to make sure everyone in attendance is safe.
In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, the library says security officers will be at the site this weekend and EVPL staff will make sure the room does not end up over capacity.
The library also says that anyone attending the story hour must have a child under twelve with them.
"We want as many children who would like to attend the event to be able," Heather McNabb, EVPL's engagement and experience officer, said in the statement.
As for others interested in the event, the library is asking supporters and opponents to respect its solicitation policy, which means they’ll have to stay at least ten feet away from the building entrance.
The Drag Queen Story Hour is set to take place 10 a.m. Saturday at North Park Library.
