Vanderburgh county commissioners have named former sheriff Eric Williams to the library’s board of trustees.
Williams will fill a seat vacated by Andrew Ozete, who resigned a few weeks ago during the Drag Queen Story Hour controversy.
Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave made the motion to nominate Williams. "The library has multiple facilities. They have a large staff. They manage a huge budget," she says. "Eric Williams has done all of that in a governmental capacity and has done it even-handedly and well."
Musgrave has previously said she wants to see staff changes at the library. She says she doesn’t know where Williams stands on any specific personnel issue, but she trusts his judgement.
Williams was first elected Vanderburgh County Sheriff in 2007. He joined Old National Bank after retiring in 2014.
Williams is one of two appointments commissioners make to the library's board of trustees. Commissioners were asked several weeks ago to hold the public hearing required to remove and replace their other appointee, Sabrina Stewart Thomas.
Commissioners earlier said they would consider that request but now say they will not hold the hearing.
