Ben Trockman kicked off his campaign for an Evansville city council seat after filing to run at the Vanderburgh county election office. Supporters braved single-digit temperatures Wednesday afternoon to #RockWithTrock.
Trockman is running as a Democrat for the first ward seat. In his speech, he told the crowd that approachability, honesty, and advocacy form the three pillars of his campaign.
He said he could start naming agenda priorities, but he wants to hear from first-ward residents. "Being a city council person, you don’t exactly have the ability to push an agenda of sorts," Trockman said. "You can support things. You can advocate on behalf of neighbors and friends, and that’s what I plan to do."
The incumbent isn’t seeking re-election so, Trockman said, it felt like the right time to run. He added that young professionals are taking leadership positions throughout the city.
Tim O’Brien, who’s also a young professional, is running in the first ward as a Republican.
The seat is currently held by independent Dan McGinn, who isn’t running again. McGinn was elected as a Republican but dropped his GOP affiliation while on council.
