A four-year, liberal arts education has become more attainable to students who want one. Increasing the number of non-traditional students enrolled at the University of Evansville (UE) is one of the goals of a new partnership between the university and Ivy Tech Community College.

Ivy Tech students who maintain a 2.0 GPA and complete certain prerequisites will be guaranteed admission to the University of Evansville once they complete their associate's degree. They’ll also be given a scholarship of $18,000 a year while at UE.

The new partnership allows Ivy Tech students to live in UE dorms and participate in the school’s student life while taking classes at Ivy Tech.

University of Evansville President Chris Pietruszkiewicz said the dual-admission program makes a four-year college degree more accessible.

"This is one way to ease into that transition, and it makes it so much easier for non-traditional students to be able to do that," he said.

Jonathan Weinzapfel, chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Evansville campus, said he expects more students from the community college to enroll at UE.
