Jesse Raes and Seth Calloway were a little cold for a few minutes Thursday afternoon.
"It’s definitely a little bit colder up there," Raes said.
“Toes go numb and all that,” Calloway added.
The two union ironworkers sat high off the ground as they secured the final beam on St. Vincent Evansville YMCA, the future home of the YMCA in downtown Evansville. The site is just across the street from the current downtown YMCA.
Around 45 Skanska workers have been at the site since the project started in June with the demolition of the Evansville Housing Authority building.
Derrick Stewart, CEO of YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, said it took a lot of faith for the project to make it to this point, which is one of the reasons a prayer was offered at the beam-raising ceremony.
"All the things that it takes to make this project a success, we could not let this moment go by without thanking the Lord for that support," he said.
Stewart hopes the new building will open in late August or early September of next year.
