McNamara Says She'd Consider Support Of Legal Medical Marijuana

During last night’s debate at WNIN, State Representative Wendy McNamara, a Republican, said she would consider voting for legislation that would legalize medical marijuana with some caveats.

“I would require boundaries, and I would require restrictions," she said. "And I would rely on medical experts as well as those people who consider themselves experts in the field.”

Candidates for the Indiana House of Representatives seat 76 were asked whether they would support legalizing medical or recreational cannabis.

Her opponent, Democrat Steve Folz, didn’t directly answer the question during the sixty seconds given to each candidate, but he said that over the course of his career in the construction industry, he saw recreational marijuana users turn to harder substances to avoid positive drug tests.

“The people that were using marijuana as a recreational drug were moving off to things that were more harmful because it would get out of their system faster,” he said. 

The Indiana legislature voted to legalize cannabidiol, or CBD, oil earlier this year. McNamara was a co-sponsor of the bill
