Residents urged to register to vote

John Gibson

The League of Women Voters registered people for the November election at Central Library on Tuesday, National Voter Registration Day.

The League’s Roberta Heiman says the group has been speaking to local high school seniors about becoming lifetime voters…

"And we invited them to make posters and videos of why it's important to vote."

The students’ posters are now on display in the Central Library lobby, and the winner will be posted on two billboards along Evansville roadways.

Heiman said Indiana has one of the lowest voter turnouts in the nation…

"Especially in non-presidential elections, but it's important that we vote for our congressmen, our county, and city, and state officials too."

Heiman pointed out that Indiana counties have purged voter rolls, including about 20,000 names in Vanderburgh County…

"So if you want to make sure that your name was not mistakenly removed from the polls, be sure to get online and make sure you're still registered"

You can check your voter registration status at Indianavoters.com.

The deadline to register is October 9th, the day before early voting begins.
