Colin Powell To Visit USI

Retired General Colin Powell is coming to Evansville.

The University of Southern Indiana says Powell will take part in a leadership discussion April 4th at the new USI Arena.

The discussion is titled “Leadership: Taking Charge.”

It will be free and open to the public.

General Powell served as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan, and as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

Powell was the first African American, as well as youngest and first ROTC graduate, to serve as chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

During his time as chairman, he oversaw 28 crises, including the Panama intervention of 1989 and Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

Powell also served as Secretary of State in George W. Bush’s administration.

The new $66 million USI arena is still under construction. It’s expected to open in early 2019.
