Crews isolated the two breaks Monday at Owensboro Municipal Utilities’ Plant A and repaired them overnight. The utility company says water pressure should return Tuesday afternoon, but the boil order will remain in place while crews flush the water system. The company says state officials will most likely lift the order Thursday after an inspection.
OMU spokersperson Sonya Dixon said she is not sure how much water was poured from the breaks, nor does she know the cost of the damage.
Plant A was the site of another water main break late last year. OMU has plans to close down the facility, which was built in the early 1900s, and expand the newer Cavin Water Treatment Plant.
The expansion will take two years to build after the bidding and financing stages are complete. Dixon said customers can expect a rate increase.
