The audience cheered when members of the army’s parachuting team, the Golden Knights, stuck their landings on a grassy spot near the Four Freedoms Monument.

The team was rehearsing for this weekend’s shows, and the Hollingsworth’s were right there to watch. They all said it's the best place to view the parachutes.

The parachutes are the children’s favorite part. Mariah and Juanita practically finished each other’s sentence to tell me.

The family are festival regulars. Amanda, the mother, said she’s been for at least the past ten years. Her husband Paul remembers going as a kid.

Debi Riggles is a regular, too. “I like the parachutes and when they dogfight and they wave and they go in a circle,” she said.

But the Mt. Vernon resident was not at the landing zone when we talk. She was sitting near the corner of Riverside Dr. and Main St, a spot she said has its own benefits.  “It’s great. Welcome to Evansville," she said. "It’s really livened up down here in the downtown.”

ShrinersFest continues on the downtown riverfront until Sunday.
