Evansville chosen for plant expansion

berryglobal.com

Evansville has been chosen for a major corporate expansion.

Berry Global plans to add 150 new jobs over the next couple of years as part of an expansion at its downtown Evansville location.

That information came in a news release from the Indiana Economic Development  Corporation Tuesday afternoon. The company is investing  more than $70 million for new equipment, adding four new thermoforming lines.

Last month, WNIN reported that Evansville was in competition with at least one other city for the planned expansion. The Evansville City Council voted to provide $4.2 million in tax breaks, including five years of property tax abatements and $100,000 in training grants from riverboat casino revenues. The IEDC added $1.5 million in conditional tax credits, according to the release Tuesday.

The average wage for the new jobs is more than $21 an hour.
